Motorcyclist Critical After Brick Attack

A motorcyclist has been left in a critical condition after being struck on the head by a brick allegedly thrown by muggers in the Shewrapara area of Mirpur in Dhaka. The victim, Sajid Chowdhury Rafi, is currently undergoing intensive treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors have described his condition as highly precarious and not yet out of danger.

According to medical officials, Rafi sustained severe head trauma, and his recovery remains uncertain. He is being kept under constant observation, with specialists providing advanced life-support care. Doctors have warned that the next 48 hours are particularly critical in determining his survival prospects.

The incident has caused deep distress among his family members. His mother, Tania Chowdhury, made an emotional appeal to the public, urging everyone to pray for her son’s recovery. She described his condition as extremely serious and said the family is living through an agonising period of uncertainty.

Law enforcement authorities have moved swiftly following the attack. Acting on intelligence, police conducted an operation in the Kafrul area on Thursday evening, where two suspects were initially detained. They were later formally arrested by RAB-4 following further interrogation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Faisal and Md Kalu, both aged 27. During preliminary questioning, they allegedly admitted involvement in the incident, claiming that the victim had prior business-related disputes with them. Investigators say that a long-standing personal and commercial rivalry may have escalated into violence.

Police reports suggest that on the day of the incident, Rafi was travelling alone on his motorcycle through Shewrapara when he was allegedly stopped by the assailants. The situation reportedly escalated quickly, culminating in a brick being thrown at him, causing the severe head injury.

Investigators are continuing to verify the sequence of events. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being collected, and eyewitness accounts are being recorded to establish a clearer picture of what transpired. Officials emphasise that the case is still under active investigation and that all angles, including personal enmity and organised criminal intent, are being explored.

The attack has triggered concern among local residents, many of whom have expressed alarm over a perceived rise in mugging and street violence in the area. Law enforcement agencies have assured that patrols and targeted operations will be intensified to curb such incidents and restore public confidence.
