Police have recovered the severed and severely mutilated body of a local Awami Jubo League leader from a village in the Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni. The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Jobayer Hossain Parvez, was found on Saturday morning, 27 June, with his throat slit and hands severed.
The gruesome discovery was made by local residents next to a pond in the Nur Ahammad Masterbari area, located within Ward 9 of the Ghopal union. Parvez, the son of Abu Taher, was an active figure in local politics and heavily involved with the Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling political party.
According to law enforcement officials and grieving family members, Parvez was last seen alive by his father at around 1:00 am on Friday night inside their family residence. The exact circumstances under which he left the house later that night remain unclear.
At dawn, villagers passing by the local pond noticed a blood-stained body lying on the bank. Upon closer inspection, they discovered that the victim’s throat had been brutally cut and his hands were nearly severed from his body. Horrified by the scene, the locals immediately alerted the Chhagalnaiya police, who dispatched a team to cordon off the area and secure the crime scene.
The family of the deceased has alleged that the killing was a pre-planned assassination stemming from an ongoing business dispute. Parvez’s younger brother explicitly named two local individuals, Shahadat Hossain and Mamunur Rashid Mamun, both sons of Sadeq Miah from the same village.
Family sources revealed that Parvez had been embroiled in a bitter disagreement with the duo regarding the ownership and operation of a local shop. This commercial dispute had recently escalated into a heated argument and a physical altercation. The victim’s family firmly believes that this unresolved animosity prompted the suspects to orchestrate the brutal murder as an act of retaliation.
Following the notification, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chhagalnaiya Police Station, Abu Taher, personally led a team to inspect the spot and gather preliminary evidence. The police subsequently recovered the body and transferred it to the Feni General Hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination.
OC Abu Taher stated that a rigorous investigation is underway to uncover the exact motive behind the murder and to identify everyone involved in the crime. He confirmed that the victim’s family is currently preparing to lodge a formal murder case (Ejahar) at the station. Law enforcement authorities have assured the public that legal processes are moving swiftly, and raids are being planned to apprehend the named suspects who have reportedly gone into hiding since the discovery of the body. The incident has left the local community tense, with many demanding immediate justice.
