Police Uncover Alleged Murder Plot Disguised as Road Accident

Authorities in Faridpur have launched a comprehensive homicide investigation following the discovery of a body under circumstances that suggest a calculated attempt to stage a crime scene. On the night of Tuesday, 5 May, the remains of Rabiul Islam, 36, were discovered near a crashed vehicle on the Satoir-Mohammadpur road in the Boalmari sub-district. While initial reports indicated a standard traffic fatality, the Boalmari police have since detained four individuals, asserting that the death was a premeditated act of violence.

Rabiul Islam, a tractor driver from Sindhain village in Magura’s Mohammadpur sub-district, was the son of Golam Sarwar Sheikh. He leaves behind a wife and an eleven-year-old child. Law enforcement confirmed on Wednesday, 6 May, that the investigation has transitioned into a murder inquiry, moving away from the initial “accidental” narrative.

Dispute Over Marriage and a Collateralised Motorcycle

The conflict originates from a volatile domestic history involving Shahidul Sheikh, a resident of Hatkholarchar village, and his wife, the daughter of Sayed Molla. The couple’s marriage, established through elopement two years ago against their families’ wishes, had recently deteriorated. Following a series of altercations, the wife had returned to her father’s home.

The tension escalated significantly after allegations surfaced that Shahidul had taken his brother-in-law’s motorcycle and pledged it as collateral for a loan without permission. On the afternoon of the incident, Sayed Molla, accompanied by his neighbour Rabiul Islam, visited Shahidul’s residence to demand the vehicle’s return. Following a sharp verbal dispute, the two men initially left without the motorcycle.

A Lured Victim and a Suspected Ambush

Police believe that Shahidul Sheikh orchestrated a “tactical deception” to lure the men back later that evening. Shahidul reportedly phoned the pair, claiming he would return the vehicle if they came to his house. Upon their arrival, Sayed Molla was instructed to wait at the residence of a local village elder (Matubbar), while Rabiul Islam was separated from the group and led away by Shahidul and his associates under a different pretext.

A short time later, Shahidul telephoned his father-in-law, advising him to return home and promising the motorcycle would be delivered the following morning. Rabiul Islam never returned to the meeting point, and his mobile phone subsequently went unanswered.

Discovery at Bottala: The Crash that Revealed the Crime

At approximately 09:30 pm, residents in the Bottala area of Mayna union discovered a private car that had veered off the Satoir-Mohammadpur road into a ditch. Upon approaching the vehicle to offer assistance, locals found the bloodied body of Rabiul Islam lying nearby. Identification was confirmed via a mobile phone located at the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that approximately five young men were inside the car at the time of the crash. While three managed to flee on foot, local residents successfully apprehended two suspects, identified as Shahajada, 23, and Tapu Saha, 22. Investigators theorise that the victim was murdered elsewhere and that the suspects were in the process of transporting the body for disposal when they lost control of the vehicle.

Official Investigation and Post-Mortem Procedures

The primary suspect, Shahidul Sheikh, along with his family, has reportedly fled Hatkholarchar village and deactivated all mobile communications. Golam Sarwar Sheikh, the victim’s father, has formally demanded justice, stating that his son was an innocent party caught in a planned ambush.

Md. Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Boalmari Police Station, confirmed that the body has been sent to a local morgue for a formal autopsy. He stated that four individuals are currently being interrogated to determine the full extent of the conspiracy.

Md. Azam Khan, Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Madhukhali Circle, provided preliminary details on the victim’s condition:

“The victim sustained multiple injuries consistent with a severe physical assault rather than a vehicular collision,” ASP Khan noted. “We are treating this as a premeditated murder originating from a motorcycle dispute. The role and ownership of the private car found in the ditch are central to our forensic analysis.”

The Satoir-Mohammadpur road site remains cordoned off as forensic experts examine the vehicle for biological evidence. Police raids are ongoing across the region to locate Shahidul Sheikh and the other remaining suspects.
