Raipura Clash Leaves One Dead

A violent confrontation over local influence in Raipura Upazila of Narsingdi District has resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man and injuries to at least ten others, according to police and local sources.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (16 June) in the early hours in the Haripur and Darigao areas of Nilaksha Union. The clash broke out between supporters of two rival groups identified locally as those led by Nazim Uddin and Alal Munshi.

The deceased, identified as Anik, was the son of former union parishad member Osman Miah of Darigao village. He was reportedly aligned with the Nazim Uddin group. He was fatally shot during the confrontation and later died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being transferred from Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

Local residents and police reported that the dispute between the two groups over establishing dominance in the area had persisted for a considerable period. On the day of the incident, both sides allegedly gathered with firearms and locally made weapons, escalating into an exchange of gunfire and violence.

Witness accounts indicate that some individuals were seen carrying firearms while wearing helmets and bulletproof vests during the clash, contributing to widespread panic in the surrounding communities.

Casualties and Injuries

At least ten people were injured in the incident, including individuals identified as Raju, Suman, Kashem, and Mobarak. Several of the injured were initially taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital before being referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment due to the severity of their conditions.

Following the incident, law enforcement agencies, including police and Rapid Action Battalion personnel along with the Upazila administration, moved quickly to the scene and brought the situation under control.

The Officer-in-Charge of Mojibur Rahman stated that the clash stemmed from a long-standing dispute between the two rival groups over local dominance. He confirmed that police had been deployed immediately after receiving information and that order had since been restored.

Authorities have strengthened police presence in the area to prevent any further escalation or retaliatory violence. Investigations are ongoing, and legal action is being prepared in connection with the incident.

The situation remains under close monitoring by law enforcement to ensure stability in the locality.
