A deeply disturbing murder case in Sherpur, Bangladesh, has been solved after police arrested a young man accused of killing his friend over a personal dispute involving a romantic relationship and financial conflict.
According to investigators, the victim, Al Amin, was brutally murdered in a premeditated attack allegedly carried out by his close friend, Shuvo. The incident stemmed from a complex dispute involving Shuvo’s romantic relationship with Al Amin’s divorced sister, which had already created tension between the two families.
On Tuesday afternoon, 19 May, officers from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested Shuvo from the Bagolgarh Gucchagram area in Sherpur. His arrest followed a detailed investigation launched after the discovery of an unidentified body.
Earlier, on 18 May, police recovered a headless and partially decomposed body from a Napier grass field in the New Bagolgarh village under Char Pakshimari Union. The remains were found in a highly deteriorated condition, making immediate identification difficult. However, the victim was later identified by his father, Saiful Islam, through clothing and personal belongings, including trousers and shoes.
Following the identification, a murder case was filed at Sherpur Sadar Police Station. The investigation was later transferred to the Jamalpur unit of the Police Bureau of Investigation, led by Pankaj Dutta.
Investigation findings
PBI investigators revealed that the case involved multiple motives, including romantic rivalry and financial dispute. Shuvo reportedly had an ongoing relationship with Al Amin’s divorced sister, which had caused longstanding tension between the families.
During the investigation, it was further disclosed that Al Amin had advised Shuvo to distance himself from his sister. Around the same time, Shuvo allegedly requested BDT 100,000 from Al Amin to set up a motorcycle garage. In response, Al Amin allegedly made an inappropriate remark regarding Shuvo’s sister, which investigators believe deeply offended him and triggered the murder plot.
Shuvo then reportedly conspired with an associate, Samrat, offering him BDT 10,000 to assist in the killing.
