A Dhaka court has placed six individuals on a four-day remand in connection with the killing of a teenager, Alex Imon, who was hacked to death during a violent clash between two rival groups allegedly linked to teenage gang activity in Mohammadpur.
The order was issued on Thursday by Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam following a hearing at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Sadhan Kumar Mondal, had sought a seven-day remand for each accused to facilitate further interrogation. However, after considering the submissions, the court granted a four-day remand instead.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on 12 April in the afternoon in the Boddhijibi Road area of Basbari under Mohammadpur Police Station. It is alleged that members of a rival group surrounded Alex Imon, who was alone at the time, following previous enmity. He was then attacked with sharp weapons and critically injured. Locals rescued him and transported him to a nearby hospital in Dhaka, where attending doctors declared him dead.
Police further stated that sharp weapons believed to have been used in the killing were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects. During preliminary interrogation, investigators claim the accused provided significant information regarding their alleged direct involvement in the murder. Law enforcement sources also indicated that several of the detainees have prior allegations of involvement in criminal activities.
The victim’s mother, Ferdousi Begum, filed the murder case as the complainant. The case names 21 individuals directly, while an additional 10 to 12 unidentified persons have also been included as suspects. Following the incident, police and other law enforcement agencies have continued operations to arrest those still at large.

Investigators believe the killing may be linked to long-standing rivalry and a struggle for dominance between local groups operating in the area. However, officials stressed that a clearer picture will emerge once custodial interrogation of the suspects is completed.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that the six accused will be questioned intensively during the four-day remand period as part of efforts to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the fatal attack and to identify any remaining individuals involved.
Meanwhile, the incident has caused significant concern among local residents. Community members report growing anxiety over the increasing influence and activity of youth gangs in the area, which they say is posing a serious threat to public safety and order.
