A woman has reportedly died after being assaulted with a wooden stick in a tragic incident in Rupsa upazila of Khulna district, Bangladesh, in what police suspect to be a case of domestic violence allegedly involving her son.
The incident took place on Friday morning at around 8:30 a.m. in Khan Mohammadpur village under Aichgati Union. The deceased has been identified as Mimmi Begum, 44, a local resident and the wife of Hamidul Islam.
According to police and local sources, the situation unfolded shortly after the early morning prayers. It is alleged that her son, Nadeem Islam, attacked her inside their home with a wooden stick, striking her repeatedly. She sustained severe injuries and is believed to have died at the scene.
Following the incident, local residents reportedly intervened and detained the suspect before handing him over to authorities. However, when police initially attempted to take him into custody, they faced resistance from an agitated crowd. The situation escalated to the point where law enforcement personnel were forced to temporarily take shelter in a nearby house to ensure their safety.
Senior police officials later arrived at the scene and managed to bring the situation under control. The suspect was subsequently taken into police custody.
