Sujon Rules Out BCB Election Bid

Former Bangladesh all-rounder Khaled Mahmud Sujon has confirmed that he will not contest the upcoming elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Speaking to the media on Saturday (25 April) while attending an event in Bogura, he stated clearly that he has no intention or plan to take part in the electoral process.

Sujon added that although he is not entering the election race, he remains open to contributing to Bangladesh cricket in a professional capacity. He expressed willingness to work as a coach or to take on any cricket-related responsibility if the board deems him suitable. According to him, his priority remains contributing to the overall development and improvement of cricket standards in the country.

He further noted that he recently held detailed discussions with Tamim Iqbal, the head of the current BCB ad hoc committee, regarding the development of cricket in Bangladesh. The discussions reportedly covered the current state of the national game, future planning, and strategies for infrastructure development. Sujon said he shared his own views while also listening to Tamim’s plans for advancing the game.

He also confirmed that he had already informed Tamim Iqbal of his decision not to participate in the upcoming elections. Despite stepping away from electoral politics, he reiterated his interest in remaining involved in cricket development initiatives, particularly in coaching and related technical roles.

It is worth noting that earlier this month, the National Sports Council dissolved the previous board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul and formed a new 11-member ad hoc committee. Tamim Iqbal was appointed as its chairman. Following his appointment, Tamim stated that the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s general election is expected to be held by June.
