The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors’ election witnessed the participation of former national captain and current ad hoc committee head Tamim Iqbal, who cast his vote at the board’s headquarters in Mirpur amid tight security and close monitoring. The election process commenced on Sunday morning and gradually gathered momentum after a notably slow start.
Although polling officially began at 10:00 am, voter turnout in the initial phase remained modest. The first ballot was cast approximately 45 minutes after voting opened, reflecting the sluggish beginning of the process. However, participation increased gradually as the day progressed, with more councillors arriving at the venue.
Tamim Iqbal, representing Old DOHS Club as a councillor, exercised his voting right at around 11:35 am. At a similar time, former national fast bowler Rubel Hossain also cast his vote as a Category-1 voter. Their presence drew considerable attention within the cricket fraternity, adding significance to the electoral proceedings.
This year’s election has generated particular interest due to the highly competitive nature of the Category-2 (club category) contest. A total of 16 candidates are contesting 12 director positions, including several prominent cricketing and administrative figures. Among them are Tamim Iqbal himself and Fahim Sinha, representing Abahani Limited, alongside other well-known personalities from club cricket.
Meanwhile, eight directors have already been elected unopposed. Of these, seven come from Category-1 and one from Category-3, effectively narrowing the competitive field to the club-based voting segment, which is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the board’s future leadership structure.
According to election commission sources, a total of 41 voters participated through the electronic voting system. This includes three representatives from district and divisional sports associations and 38 councillors representing various Dhaka-based clubs.
