Teen Driver Murder Suspect Arrested

Police in Lakshmipur district have arrested the prime suspect in the brutal killing of a teenage auto-rickshaw driver, an incident that has sparked widespread shock and curiosity after the accused was found in possession of a pet monkey at the time of arrest.

Gias Uddin, a resident of Char Ababil Union in Raipur upazila, was detained late Monday night from the Wireless area of Chandpur Sadar. Officers confirmed that he was the main suspect in the murder of 14-year-old Md Rajib, an auto-rickshaw driver whose body was discovered earlier in the week.

According to investigators, the incident took place on Friday night when the victim was hired for a ride by the accused. The journey allegedly led to a secluded location, where Gias Uddin is believed to have consumed intoxicants before attempting to seize control of the vehicle. When Rajib resisted the robbery attempt, he was reportedly struck on the head with a hammer, resulting in his death.

The following day, on Saturday afternoon, police recovered Rajib’s body from a garden area located to the west of a school in Char Ababil. The discovery triggered immediate outrage in the local community. That evening, Rajib’s father, Md Mostafa, filed a murder case at Raipur Police Station, naming Gias Uddin as the principal accused.

Following the complaint, law enforcement launched a targeted operation, eventually tracking the suspect to Chandpur, where he was arrested. During preliminary interrogation, police said Gias Uddin confessed to the killing and admitted that he later attempted to sell the stolen auto-rickshaw. He reportedly took the vehicle to Hajiganj market but failed to find a buyer and abandoned it in a house before fleeing the area.

What has particularly drawn public attention is that the accused was apprehended along with his pet monkey, named “Raj.” Officers stated that he had taken the animal with him while escaping after the incident. The monkey has since been placed in police custody and is expected to be handed over to the forest department for proper care and management.

When the animal was brought to the police station, it quickly attracted a crowd of curious onlookers. The monkey reportedly became restless inside the station premises, causing some disruption as officers attempted to manage the situation.
