Three children exhibiting measles-like symptoms died within a span of six hours at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, according to hospital authorities. The deaths occurred between 5:20 pm and 10:30 pm on Monday.
Hospital officials confirmed the information, stating that the total number of child deaths with measles-like symptoms in Mymensingh this year has now reached 20.

Condition of patients and hospital admissions
During the preceding 24 hours, a further 32 children presenting similar symptoms were admitted to the hospital. At present, 74 children remain under treatment in the facility’s isolation unit.
Since 17 March, a cumulative total of 925 children with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to the hospital. Of these, 831 have recovered and been discharged, while 20 have died. One child has been transferred to a specialised children’s hospital in Dhaka for advanced care.
Details of the deceased children
The three deceased children were receiving treatment in the hospital’s isolation ward at the time of their deaths:
- Mustakim, a seven-month-old boy from Harun Mia of Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh, was admitted on 22 April in the afternoon. He died at 5:20 pm on Monday.
- Saifa, a four-month-old girl from Safayet Hossain of Madarganj Upazila in Jamalpur, was admitted on 23 April. She died at 6:05 pm while under treatment.
- Samiullah, a five-month-old boy from Shakil Mia of Durgapur Upazila in Netrokona, was admitted on 20 April. He died at approximately 10:30 pm on Monday.
Hospital admission and treatment overview
The hospital began admitting patients with measles-like symptoms in the paediatric department in February this year. From mid-March onwards, the number of cases increased significantly.
A dedicated 64-bed isolation ward has been established for the treatment of affected children. According to hospital authorities, three medical teams are currently engaged in managing and treating patients in this unit.
