A tractor driver has died and three other people have been injured following a collision involving a bus, a tractor, and a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Sherpur’s Nakla upazila of Bangladesh.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning (9 May) in the Jallalpur area of Nakla municipal town. The deceased has been identified as Abul Hashem, a resident of Dorithengori village in Gaurdwar union of the upazila. He was driving a Mahindra-brand goods-carrying tractor at the time of the accident.
According to police and local sources, the sequence of events began around 7:00 am when the tractor was travelling from Nakla towards Sherpur. As it reached the Jallalpur area, a passenger bus named Mamata Express, heading towards Sherpur, attempted to overtake the tractor from behind.
At the same time, a CNG-run autorickshaw approached from the opposite direction and came into the bus’s path. In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with the autorickshaw, the bus swerved but struck the rear of the tractor. The impact caused the tractor to overturn, resulting in the immediate death of driver Abul Hashem at the scene.
Simultaneously, the CNG autorickshaw was also involved in the collision, leading to injuries to three of its passengers. Emergency responders and local residents later assisted in rescuing the injured individuals and transporting them to Nakla Upazila Health Complex.
One of the injured was reported to be in a critical condition and was subsequently referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The remaining two injured passengers received primary medical care at the upazila health facility.
Police from Nakla Police Station confirmed the incident and stated that the body of the deceased was recovered from the scene following notification. The accident-involved bus has been seized as part of the ongoing legal procedure. Authorities have indicated that necessary legal steps are being taken in connection with the case.
