Police have arrested two individuals, including a local Jubo Dal leader, on charges of gang-raping a woman in the Sirab area of Jampur Union under Sonargaon Upazila, Narayanganj. The arrests were made during a police operation conducted on the night of Friday, 12 June. The incident has triggered widespread discussion and strong condemnation across the local community. A formal case has been registered at the Sonargaon Police Station following a written complaint lodged by the victim.
Details of the Incident and Allegations
According to the case statement and police sources, the victim resides with her husband and children as a tenant in the Sirab area of Jampur Union. The incident occurred on 10 June at approximately 5:30 pm while the woman was performing domestic chores in her kitchen.
The primary accused, Md. Shohid, accompanied by his accomplice Shahin Mia, entered the kitchen and forcibly covered her mouth. The suspects threatened to harm her children to prevent her from raising an alarm. They then coerced her into the ground floor of an adjacent four-storey building. Inside a room, the suspects bound her hands and mouth before subjecting her to a gang rape. Following the assault, the perpetrators fled the scene, and the victim returned to her residence. Later that evening, she informed her husband of the ordeal when he returned home from his workplace.

The victim subsequently arrived at Sonargaon Police Station and filed a formal written complaint. Upon receiving the allegations, the police immediately initiated an investigation. Following preliminary verification, law enforcement personnel launched a targeted raid on Friday night, resulting in the apprehension of both named suspects.
