Two passengers have been killed and at least 25 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses operated by the same company in the Chunti area of Lohagara upazila in Chattogram. The incident occurred at around 10:45 am on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway, adjacent to the Four Season Restaurant area.
According to police, fire service officials and eyewitness accounts, both buses belonged to Marsha Paribahan. One bus was travelling from Chattogram towards Cox’s Bazar, while the other was heading in the opposite direction carrying passengers towards Chattogram. The vehicles collided head-on in the Chunti area, reportedly while both were in motion at speed.
Following the impact, one of the buses lost control and veered off the highway, crashing into a tree on the eastern side of the road. The other bus left the carriageway and struck a roadside shop on the western side. Although goods inside the shop were damaged, no one inside the premises was injured.
Fire service officials confirmed that one passenger died at the scene, while another was declared dead after being taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex. At least five of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, while others are receiving treatment at different local hospitals.
The deceased include a 66-year-old woman, who died at the accident site, and a male passenger who succumbed to his injuries after being transported to hospital. He was reportedly a resident of Jhenaidah district.
Rescue operations were carried out by the Lohagara Fire Service team, who reached the site shortly after being informed of the crash. Injured passengers were extracted from the wreckage and transported to nearby medical facilities with the assistance of local residents and emergency responders.

Officer-in-Charge of Chunti Police Investigation Outpost, Abbas Ali, confirmed the identities and casualty figures. He stated that the situation was brought under control following rescue operations and that injured passengers were swiftly transported for medical attention.
Fire Service Station Officer Firoz Khan said that emergency teams recovered one body from the scene and admitted six critically injured individuals to hospital, one of whom later died. He added that several other injured passengers had already been taken to different hospitals by local residents before official rescue teams arrived.
Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the damage and have begun preliminary inquiries into the cause of the collision.
