Two people have been killed and three others injured following a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona district.
The incident occurred at around 8:00 am on Saturday (2 May) in the Ilashpur area, adjacent to the Purbadhala Fire Service station on the Shyamganj–Birishiri regional highway.
According to police and local sources, a passenger bus operated by “Allah Dan” service, travelling from Durgapur to Mymensingh, collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision caused immediate fatalities and serious injuries.
One of the deceased was identified as Ainal Haque (57), son of the late Kashem Ali from South Kaldoar village in Purbadhala upazila. The identity of the second deceased person could not be confirmed at the time of reporting. He later died while undergoing treatment at Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex after being rescued.
Three others sustained injuries in the accident. Fire Service personnel from Purbadhala rescued the injured and transported them to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment. The injured include Mollah Mia (45), son of Kashem Ali from South Kaldoar village under Agia Union; Dr Sara Tabbassum Urmi (MBBS), a physician at Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex; and Md Monir Hossain (23), son of Abdul Aziz from Phulpur Police Station area.
Police confirmed that the collision occurred between the incoming Mymensingh-bound passenger bus and the auto-rickshaw travelling from the opposite direction. One victim died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at the health facility.
Following the incident, police recovered the bodies and initiated legal procedures. The driver of the passenger bus fled the scene after the collision. Efforts are ongoing to identify the second deceased person.
