Two Killed, One Injured in Fulbari Truck Collision

A tragic road accident in Fulbari, Dinajpur, has claimed the lives of two individuals and left another injured, raising renewed concerns over road safety in the area. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, 25 February, at approximately 8:00 am in the Boliherpur area of Aladipur Union, along the Dinajpur–Gobindganj regional highway.

According to Abdul Latib Shah, Officer-in-Charge of Fulbari Police Station, the victims included Ainul Islam, a 53-year-old van driver from Rajarampur, Shibnagar Union, and Ruma Khatun, a 22-year-old female passenger from Baraihat, Aladipur Union. Another passenger, Yasmin Akter, 45, also sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the local Upazila Health Complex.

Local sources reported that the two female workers were travelling in a van to their workplace from Baraihat when a truck heading towards Dinajpur lost control and collided with their vehicle. Both Ainul Islam and Ruma Khatun were killed instantly at the scene. Yasmin Akter survived but suffered injuries serious enough to require hospitalisation.

In the immediate aftermath, the truck driver and an accomplice fled the scene. Police responded promptly, recovered the two bodies, completed formal documentation, and impounded the truck for investigation. Officer Shah confirmed that arrangements are underway to hand over the bodies to the families, while a case has been filed under the Road Transport Act.

Residents have long expressed concerns over the Dinajpur–Gobindganj road, citing its narrow width and poor maintenance. High-speed traffic combined with fragile road infrastructure has frequently led to accidents, heightening fears among commuters.

The police have increased safety measures at the site and are actively searching for the fleeing truck driver and accomplice. This marks the second major road accident in Fulbari this year, prompting local authorities to repeatedly urge the public to exercise caution while travelling.

The accident has cast a shadow of grief over the local community. Both local government officials and social welfare organisations have extended condolences to the bereaved families and provided support to the injured.

Authorities are now considering additional road safety measures, including speed control and regular maintenance, to prevent further tragedies in the region.
