Momen-Cleverly talks: UK reiterates pledge to resolve Rohingya crisis, James Cleverly, the foreign secretary for the United Kingdom, has reaffirmed the commitment of his government to resolving the Rohingya crisis. On the second day, Saturday, of the 18th IISS Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, he gave the assurance during a meeting with his counterpart from Bangladesh, Dr. AK Abdul Momen, according to a press release from the foreign ministry issued here today.

The British Foreign Secretary expressed deep appreciation to Bangladesh for continuing to provide all necessary means of support to the displaced Rohingya people from Myanmar. During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, including climate change, human rights, social justice, democracy and the Russo-Ukraine war.
They also reiterated the close ties between Bangladesh and the UK, which are based on the common values, worldviews, and cultural traditions of their respective populations. The urgent need to end the Russia-Ukraine War quickly was also emphasized by the foreign ministers in order to maintain global energy and food supply chains as well as regional peace, security, and stability. The foreign minister of Bangladesh once again expressed his gratitude to the British government for their cooperation and support on a variety of multilateral issues in international fora, and he extended an invitation to Secretary Cleverly to visit Bangladesh as soon as possible.
Dr. Momen congratulated Cleverly on his reappointment as Foreign Secretary and recalled the support the UK provided to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, particularly from the then-Conservative Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.
