Youth Hacked to Death While Returning from a Music Event

A 32-year-old man, Suman Khalifa, was hacked to death by unidentified assailants after attending a music event in Fatullah, Narayanganj. His body was discovered on Monday morning, 1 December, by police beside an abandoned house on a road in the Middle Narsinghpur area. Preliminary police assessments indicate that Suman was attacked with sharp weapons.

Suman, the son of Montu Khalifa from Agoiljhara in Barishal, had attended the event in the Panchabati area of Fatullah on Sunday night with his wife, singer Sonia Akter, aged 28. According to Akter, her husband stepped outside during the programme and did not return. Despite her efforts to locate him that night, she only learned of his death the following morning.

Additional Superintendent of Police (K-Circle), Hasinuzzaman, confirmed that the body had been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for post-mortem examination. “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder, including possible motives, and are working to identify those responsible,” he said.

The incident has shocked local residents, with many expressing concern over safety in public spaces during late-night events. Police have cordoned off the area and are conducting door-to-door inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage to trace the attackers.

Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the murder to come forward to assist in the investigation. While the motive remains unclear, initial reports suggest that personal enmity or a targeted attack could be involved, though officials cautioned that the investigation is still in its early stages.
