Nafor River Discovery: Children Find Cache of Ammunition

In a startling turn of events in the Singra Upazila of Natore, a casual fishing trip turned into a police investigation when two young brothers discovered a concealed stash of ammunition and firearm maintenance tools. The incident occurred in the Katapukuria neighbourhood last Sunday, 22 February, as the children were playing by the banks of the Nagor River.

The Unforeseen Catch

The discovery was made by nine-year-old Mostakim Hossain and his younger brother, seven-year-old Jaber Hossain, both sons of local resident Jahangir Alam. While casting their nets into the shallow waters of the Nagor River near their home, the boys spotted a blue plastic container partially submerged in the silt.

Driven by childhood curiosity, the brothers retrieved the box and brought it back to their family residence. It was only later that evening, when their father opened the container, that the gravity of the find became apparent. Instead of fishing tackle or trinkets, the box contained dozens of live rounds and specialized equipment for firearm maintenance.

Police Intervention and Forensic Details

Word of the discovery quickly spread through the village, eventually reaching the local authorities. On Tuesday, 24 February, a team from the Singra Police Station arrived at the scene to seize the items and secure the area. Abdun Noor, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singra Police Station, confirmed the recovery of the following items:

Item DescriptionQuantity / Detail
Live Ammunition50 Rounds
Markings on Bullets“CBC 32 AUTO”
Cleaning Rod1 (Plastic, for pistol barrels)
Cleaning Brushes2

The “CBC 32 AUTO” marking suggests the ammunition is designed for .32 calibre semi-automatic pistols, a common specification for civilian and some law enforcement sidearms.

Investigation and Safety Concerns

The local police have initiated a formal inquiry to determine how the ammunition ended up in the river. OC Abdun Noor stated that legal proceedings are currently underway, and the bullets will be sent for ballistic testing to see if they can be linked to any recent criminal activity in the region.

Residents have expressed concern regarding the safety of the riverbanks, as the discovery of live ammunition in a public waterway raises questions about illicit weapon disposal. Authorities have urged locals to report any similar suspicious objects immediately and cautioned children against handling unknown containers found in the wild.
