Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh – A 35-year-old man has been remanded to prison after posting inflammatory remarks on Facebook following the death of Osman Hadi, convenor of the Inquilab Manch. The post, which included the phrase “Alhamdulillah” and labelled the deceased as a “terrorist,” sparked local outrage and led to his arrest.
The individual, identified as Yasin Bhuiya, son of Babru Bhuiya from Maizkhar village in Kuti Union, was initially detained on Friday afternoon from the Kuti area of Kasba upazila. On Saturday, a local court formally sent him to prison under the guidance of law enforcement authorities.
According to Ripon Das, Investigating Officer at Kasba Police Station, Yasin’s online posts and comments were deemed provocative and offensive, inciting public anger in the area. “Following the death of Osman Hadi on Thursday, Yasin Bhuiya made a social media post containing inflammatory remarks about the deceased. Locals informed the police, and Yasin was subsequently taken into custody. Legal proceedings are now underway,” he said.
Local residents expressed shock and dismay at the posts, highlighting the sensitivity surrounding the death of prominent community figures.
