80kg Cannabis Seized in Bogura

In a significant anti-narcotics operation in Bogura, the District Detective Branch (DB) police have seized a large consignment of illegal drugs hidden inside a sand-laden truck. Acting on confidential intelligence, officers recovered 80 kilograms of dried cannabis concealed beneath a layer of sand during a late-night checkpoint operation in the TMSSS area of the city.

The raid took place at approximately 11:45 pm on 28 April along the Bogura–Rangpur highway, in front of the TMSSS Chomil and Wooden Furniture section under Bogura Sadar Upazila. A special DB team intercepted a sand-carrying truck travelling from Rangpur towards Bogura and conducted a thorough search after stopping the vehicle at a temporary checkpoint.

During the inspection, officers discovered three large plastic sacks carefully hidden beneath the sand load. Upon opening the sacks, they found a total of 80 kilograms of dried cannabis, allegedly intended for illegal distribution. The vehicle used for transporting the narcotics was also seized at the scene.

One individual was arrested in connection with the incident. The detainee was identified as Md. Robiul Islam (25), son of Mamun Akand from Krishnapur village in Fulbari upazila of Dinajpur district. Preliminary investigations suggest that he had long been involved with an organised drug trafficking network, assisting in the transportation of illegal substances across different regions.

Law enforcement officials noted that traffickers often conceal narcotics within legitimate goods such as sand, construction materials, or commercial cargo in an attempt to evade detection. However, timely intelligence enabled the police to establish the checkpoint and intercept the shipment successfully.

Confirming the seizure, Iqbal Bahar, Officer-in-Charge of the Bogura District Detective Branch, stated that the recovered cannabis weighed approximately 80 kilograms. A case has been filed against the arrested individual under the Narcotics Control Act at Bogura Sadar Police Station.

Authorities further confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the consignment and identify the intended destination. Efforts are also underway to apprehend other members of the trafficking network believed to be involved in the operation.

Officials have reiterated that anti-narcotics operations across Bogura and surrounding highways have been intensified in recent months. Increased surveillance and intelligence-driven enforcement are being maintained to curb the growing trend of drug smuggling through major transport routes.
