Prime Minister to Honour Scholars and Launch Book Fair

On 26 February, Bangladesh will host two landmark cultural and educational events, reflecting the nation’s commitment to recognising excellence and promoting literary engagement. On the same day, the distinguished Ekushey Padak will be awarded to eminent figures, and the eagerly anticipated Amar Ekushey Book Fair will be formally inaugurated at the Bangladesh Academy premises in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman will personally confer the prestigious Ekushey Padak upon scholars, writers, journalists, artists, scientists, and social workers whose extraordinary contributions have left a lasting impact on the nation’s education, literature, culture, and social welfare. Following the awards ceremony, he will inaugurate the book fair, widely regarded as one of the most significant literary events in the country.

Speaking to reporters on 21 February, Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury emphasised, “The Ekushey Padak awards ceremony and the book fair inauguration have been meticulously prepared. Both events will run from morning to evening, celebrating the achievements of the nation’s intellectuals, artists, and writers.”

The Ekushey Padak is recognised as Bangladesh’s highest secular state honour. It is awarded to individuals demonstrating outstanding achievement in education, literature, science, the arts, and social service. In contrast, the Amar Ekushey Book Fair fosters connections between writers, publishers, and readers, encouraging the country’s publishing industry and expanding the culture of literary engagement.
