Teen Worker Killed by High-Pressure Air Assault

In a shocking case of extreme workplace violence in Faridpur, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) has arrested the primary suspect in the death of a teenage worker who was fatally injured by high-pressure air from a compressor machine. The accused, 22-year-old Rihad Sheikh, also known as Hakim, was apprehended in Magura district yesterday.

RAB-10’s Company Commander, Squadron Leader Tarikul Islam, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Thursday evening. “Acting on intelligence and a special operation, we were able to identify and detain the suspect within 24 hours of the incident,” he said. Sheikh hails from Ramnagar village in Boalmari Upazila.

Details of the Incident

According to the case file, the tragic incident occurred on the night of 23 February at the Akij-Bashir Janta Jute Mill in Dobra village, Satair Union, Boalmari. The victim, 12-year-old Md. Sajib Sharif, was engaged in cleaning himself using the compressor machine’s pipe after completing his shift. The accused, along with an accomplice, reportedly inserted high-pressure air into the boy’s rectum, resulting in severe internal injuries.

Sajib’s abdomen became abnormally distended, and he fell gravely ill. He was initially admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and subsequently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite surgical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of 25 February. Medical reports confirmed multiple perforations in his intestines, which proved fatal.

Legal Action and Arrest

The victim’s father filed a murder case at Boalmari Police Station on Thursday. Following the incident, Sheikh went into hiding, but RAB-10 tracked him down using modern investigative techniques and intelligence within 24 hours. He has been handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings.

RAB-10 emphasised its zero-tolerance policy towards such brutal and inhumane crimes and reiterated its commitment to bringing offenders to justice. Authorities also pledged to take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
