In a departure from its traditional, often opaque recruitment methods, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a formal public advertisement to fill two vacancies within the national selection panel. This move towards institutional transparency comes as the contract of current Chief Selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain nears its conclusion. Although his tenure officially ended yesterday, Hossain has agreed to a one-month extension to oversee the transition while the board identifies his successors.
High Standards for a High-Stakes Role
The BCB has laid out a stringent set of criteria for those aspiring to shape the future of the Tigers. While wearing the national jersey is not a mandatory prerequisite, substantial “on-field” experience is non-negotiable. Candidates must possess a deep-rooted understanding of the mechanics of the game, paired with an analytical mind capable of navigating the data-driven landscape of modern cricket.
Table: Mandatory Qualifications and Competencies
| Category | Requirement Specification |
| Match Experience | Minimum of 100 combined matches in First-Class and List ‘A’ cricket. |
| Technical Knowledge | Comprehensive understanding of “Modern Cricket” across all three formats (Test, ODI, T20I). |
| Soft Skills | Proven leadership, decisive decision-making, and superior communication. |
| Analytical Ability | Proficiency in performance analysis, reporting, and database management. |
| Integrity | A clean record with high ethical standards and transparency. |
| Logistics | Willingness to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally. |
Scope of Work: Beyond the Senior Team
The role of a national selector extends far beyond picking the XI for the next Test match. The successful candidates will be responsible for the entire pipeline of Bangladeshi cricket talent. Their remit includes identifying players for the Bangladesh ‘A’ team, the High-Performance (HP) unit, and major domestic tournaments such as the National Cricket League (NCL), Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), and the BPL T20.
Primary responsibilities include:
Live Scouting: Physically attending domestic matches to monitor player form and fitness.
Strategic Coordination: Liaising closely with the National Head Coach and team management to align selections with tactical requirements.
Database Oversight: Maintaining meticulous records of player statistics and progression.
Player Development: Providing actionable feedback and roadmaps for players to improve their technical deficiencies.
How to Apply
Aspiring selectors who meet the aforementioned criteria are invited to submit their applications. Candidates must include a professional CV, a recently taken photograph, and their expected salary expectations. Applications should be sent via email to job@bcbcricket.com.
The deadline for submissions is 8 March 2026. Following the screening process, shortlisted candidates will be invited for a formal interview at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur.
