A tragic road accident in Kaliaganj, Gazipur, on Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one passenger and left four others critically injured. Two of the injured are reported to be in extremely serious condition. Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased and the injured.

Accident Details
The collision occurred on 4 February at the Baligaon stretch of the Kaliaganj–Tongi–Ghorashal regional highway. According to police reports, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw carrying five passengers was heading towards Ghorashal when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided with it.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic. “Suddenly, a massive truck crashed into the auto-rickshaw. People started screaming, and the vehicle was thrown off the road, landing on the roadside,” one local resident recounted.
One passenger was killed instantly at the scene. The four injured passengers were quickly rescued by nearby locals and rushed to the Kaliaganj Upazila Health Complex for initial treatment. Two of the most critically injured were later referred to hospitals in Dhaka for advanced care—one to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
Condition of the Injured
Dr Zayed Kawser, an emergency physician, stated, “Two of the patients are in critical condition. While their situation is precarious, proper medical intervention could potentially save their lives.”
Police Response
OC Zakir Hossain of Kaliaganj Police Station confirmed the casualty figures, stating that the truck driver has been apprehended and legal action is underway. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Residents have expressed deep concern over road safety along this busy highway. “Vehicles travel at high speed here, and accidents like this are unfortunately common. Stronger monitoring by police and road authorities is urgently needed,” a local eyewitness commented.
