Tragedy struck in Madaripur on Wednesday, 12 March, when two motorcyclists lost their lives following a head-on collision with a truck. The accident occurred around 1:00 pm in Bahadurpur, located within Madaripur Sadar Upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Saiful Islam, 32, son of Rafiqul Islam from Kalirbazar, Shirkhara Union, and Nazmul Khan, 16, son of Panna Khan from Sonapara, Isibpur Union, Rajair Upazila.
Eyewitnesses reported that Saiful Islam and Nazmul Khan were travelling towards Madaripur town on their motorcycle when a high-speed truck approached from the opposite direction. The vehicle collided directly with the motorcycle, causing both riders to be thrown under the truck’s wheels and sustain severe injuries. Local residents rushed them to Madaripur 250-Bed District Hospital, where attending physicians declared them dead on arrival.
Abul Kalam Azad, Officer-in-Charge of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the incident: “The bodies have been recovered and kept in the hospital morgue. Legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.” Preliminary police investigations suggest that loss of control by the truck may have triggered the collision.
Local residents have expressed concern over the lack of adequate traffic control measures in Bahadurpur, particularly near schools and marketplaces, where heavy vehicles and motorcycles frequently intersect. They argue that insufficient safety precautions have contributed to a rising number of road accidents in the area.
