In a decisive move against drug-related activities, three police officers of Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj have been subjected to punitive transfers following allegations of involvement with narcotics traffickers. The officers affected are Sub-Inspector (SI) Humayun Ahmed, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ahsanullah, and Nadirul Islam.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, Sabzel Hossain, confirmed the action, stating, “Whenever a police officer’s name surfaces in connection with drug-related activities, administrative measures are promptly taken. These three officers have been transferred as a disciplinary action.”
Supporting this, Mehedi Islam, Assistant Police Superintendent (G Circle) of Narayanganj District Police, added, “We take stringent action when there is evidence or reasonable suspicion of police involvement in narcotics. Such measures are essential to maintain discipline and uphold public trust.”
Major Anti-Drug Operation in Rupganj
In tandem with these administrative actions, Rupganj Police conducted a significant operation that resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of illegal substances. The raid, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, targeted Thakurbaria Tek and Lavrapara areas of Bhulta Union.
The operation led to the confiscation of 60 kilograms of cannabis and 450 bottles of “Eskaf,” a local illicit liquor. A private car suspected of being used for drug transportation was also impounded. Furthermore, the police recovered a pistol and a magazine during the raid. Two key suspects, identified as prominent trafficker Abu Hanif and his associate, were arrested at the scene.
The table below summarises the recovered items:
| Sl. No. | Type of Seizure | Quantity | Location | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cannabis | 60 kg | Lavrapara & Thakurbaria Tek | Recovered from bushes and low-lying fields |
| 2 | Eskaf (illicit liquor) | 450 bottles | Rupganj Sadar | Seized based on local intelligence |
| 3 | Pistol & magazine | 1 set | Thakurbaria Tek | Used in drug transportation |
| 4 | Private car | 1 | Operation area | Utilised for transporting narcotics |
Mehedi Islam emphasised, “With the cooperation of local residents, we were able to seize a substantial amount of drugs at the right time. The law enforcement authorities will not grant any leniency to those involved in trafficking.”
These coordinated efforts—including the disciplinary transfers of implicated officers and the extensive drug seizure—demonstrate Narayanganj Police’s firm stance against narcotics and underline their ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order in the district.
The operation is widely seen as part of a broader strategy to dismantle entrenched drug networks and reinforce public confidence in local law enforcement.
