Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has reinforced its commitment to inclusive social development through a strategic collaboration with Proyash Institute of Special Education, an organisation dedicated to empowering children with special needs. The partnership is set to enhance the institute’s infrastructure and broaden the scope of its specialised educational and therapeutic services.
The agreement was marked by a formal ceremony at EBL’s head office in Dhaka. During the event, Ziaul Karim, Head of Communications and External Affairs and Head of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Desk, presented a cheque to Colonel Md. Altaf Ali, Executive Director and Principal of Proyash Institute. The contribution is expected to directly support the expansion of facilities and programmes aimed at improving learning outcomes for students with diverse developmental challenges.
Proyash Institute of Special Education operates as a non-profit charitable entity under the administration of the Bangladesh Army, guided by the Chief of Army Staff. Over the years, it has earned recognition for its comprehensive and inclusive approach, addressing both educational and developmental needs. Its core programmes include Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education, structured skill-based training, therapeutic interventions, and a range of extra-curricular activities designed to nurture creativity and social skills.
In his remarks, Ziaul Karim commended the institute’s impactful work, highlighting its role in transforming the lives of children with special needs. He noted that by offering therapy, vocational training, and practical life skills, Proyash helps students become more independent and socially integrated. He further observed that such initiatives significantly ease the emotional and financial burdens faced by families. He described EBL’s involvement as part of its broader commitment to fostering sustainable and inclusive communities.
Colonel Md. Altaf Ali, speaking on behalf of Proyash, expressed appreciation for the bank’s continued support. He stated that the funding would contribute to strengthening the institute’s capacity to develop essential skills among its students, thereby enhancing their employability and long-term prospects. He emphasised the importance of building a society that values diversity, promotes acceptance, and ensures dignity for individuals with special needs.
Senior officials from both organisations were present at the ceremony. Representatives from Proyash included Afroza Sultana, Vice Principal; Kawsari Warda, Head of Human Resources; and Sultan Ahmed, Head Teacher. EBL was represented by Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Company Secretary; Major Md. Abdus Salam (Retd), Head of Administration; and Md. Maskur Reza, Head of Business Information Systems, among others.
