Law enforcement in Lakshmipur has successfully arrested the infamous drug kingpin Delwar Hossain, widely known as Michael, along with his close associate, following a targeted anti-narcotics operation. The arrest took place late on Tuesday night, 17 March, in Shibpur village of Bamni Union under Raipur Upazila.
During the operation, authorities recovered a significant cache of methamphetamine tablets, commonly referred to as “Yaba,” along with equipment used for drug consumption and distribution. This marks another high-profile intervention against Michael, who has long been regarded as one of the region’s most seasoned and elusive traffickers.
The individuals detained in the operation are:
Delwar Hossain (Michael), 36, son of Abul Kalam, resident of Shibpur village, Bamni Union.
Kiron Hossain, 35, son of Badiuzzaman, resident of Denayetpur village, Raipur Municipality.
According to Mohammad Sharif Uddin, Assistant Director of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Lakshmipur, Michael has an extensive history in the drug trade. “Despite being arrested multiple times across nearly thirty cases and serving jail sentences, Michael has repeatedly resumed his operations,” he stated. “During the latest raid, officers conducted a thorough search which led to the seizure of 710 methamphetamine tablets.”
Sub-Inspector Sanowar Hossain filed two separate cases against the suspects under the Narcotics Control Act at Raipur Police Station. Both detainees remain in police custody while investigations continue. Authorities have emphasised that dismantling such entrenched drug networks requires persistent operations and close community cooperation.
