A planned holiday journey to the seaside town of Cox’s Bazar turned into tragedy when two young friends from Narayanganj were killed in a devastating road accident in Feni. The crash, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, also left at least five others injured, several of them in serious condition.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the accident took place at approximately 4:00 a.m. along the busy Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in the Rampur area of Feni. The victims were identified as Yamin, a resident of Singlabo in Rupganj, and Ujjal Biswas from Baliapara in Araihazar. Yamin owned a small tailoring business named “Star Tailors” at Gausia Market, while Ujjal worked at a footwear factory and lived in rented accommodation in the same locality.
Family members reported that the two victims were part of a group of six friends travelling on three motorcycles, having set out the previous night with plans to celebrate the Eid holiday in Cox’s Bazar. However, their journey was abruptly halted by a chain-reaction collision triggered by earlier road conditions.
Investigators revealed that road repair works were underway in the Rampur area, causing an ambulance to move slowly along the highway. A passenger bus belonging to Shyamoli Paribahan reportedly struck the ambulance from behind, creating congestion and confusion on the road. As traffic began to build, the group of motorcyclists stopped near the scene, reportedly to assess the situation.
Tensions escalated when drivers involved in the initial collision became engaged in a heated argument. This led to further delays, with several vehicles, including the motorcycles, becoming trapped in the growing queue. Moments later, a speeding bus operated by Doel Paribahan lost control and ploughed into the stationary vehicles and bystanders.
The resulting three-way collision between the bus, ambulance, and motorcycles proved catastrophic. Three individuals, including the motorcyclist driver, were killed instantly. Authorities have confirmed the identities of Yamin and Ujjal among the deceased, while efforts were made to verify the third victim.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, with several—including Mahmudul Hasan Dipu and Nazmul Hasan—later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Medical officials indicated that some of the injured remain in critical condition.
The bodies of the deceased were returned to their respective hometowns, where funeral rites have since been completed amid scenes of grief and mourning. Local communities have expressed deep sorrow over the untimely deaths, particularly as the victims had set out during a festive period.

Road safety analysts suggest that excessive speed, inadequate traffic control during roadworks, and poor post-accident management contributed significantly to the severity of the crash. The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of highway safety measures across Bangladesh’s major transport corridors.
