Major Yaba Haul in Chattogram

A major anti-narcotics operation in Chattogram has led to the seizure of approximately 500,000 yaba tablets from a fishing trawler and the arrest of nine suspected drug traffickers. The operation was conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rapid Action Battalion) at the Patenga 15 No. jetty area on Friday (10 April).

According to RAB officials, intelligence reports indicated that a large consignment of yaba was being transported from the border area of Cox’s Bazar to Chattogram city via sea route using a fishing vessel. Acting on the tip-off, an оператив team launched a targeted raid in the coastal area.

Upon noticing the presence of law enforcement, several individuals on board reportedly attempted to flee. However, RAB personnel quickly intercepted the trawler and apprehended nine suspects at the scene. Authorities further confirmed that among those detained were individuals believed to be associated with the Rohingya community, though investigations into their exact identities and roles are ongoing.

A subsequent search of the vessel revealed a large quantity of yaba tablets concealed inside three plastic sacks stored near the engine compartment. The drugs were carefully wrapped in polythene and adhesive tape in an attempt to evade detection. The total haul is estimated at 500,000 pieces, with a street value of approximately 150 million Bangladeshi Taka.

RAB officials stated that the syndicate had been active for an extended period, allegedly sourcing low-cost yaba from border regions of Cox’s Bazar and distributing it through maritime routes to Chattogram city and surrounding districts. Authorities believe the network had developed a structured supply chain involving multiple intermediaries and transport methods to avoid detection.

A case has been filed under the relevant narcotics control legislation, and further investigations are underway to identify other members of the trafficking network and their operational links.
