In Sunamganj, Bangladesh, police have arrested two men in connection with an alleged gang rape of a married woman at her home in the early hours of Friday, 10 April. The arrests were carried out following a special operation conducted at around 11:00 pm on Sunday, 12 April.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Mokchad Ali (45), son of the late Intaj Ali, and Yasin Mia (32), son of the late Hasu Mia. Both are residents of Lalpur village under Gaurarang Union in Sunamganj Sadar Upazila.
According to police and local accounts, the incident took place at approximately midnight in the Lalpur Guchchha Gram area under Sunamganj Sadar. The victim, a married woman, was reportedly alone in her home at the time. It is alleged that the two accused entered the residence under the pretext of inquiring about her husband’s whereabouts. Once inside and finding her alone, they are accused of forcibly committing rape.
Following the incident, the woman was left in a seriously unwell condition. Local residents subsequently rescued her and arranged for her admission to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. Medical personnel have stated that her condition remains critical, and she is currently under close medical supervision.
Police initiated an investigation immediately after the matter was reported. Acting on information gathered during the inquiry, law enforcement officers conducted a targeted operation and arrested the two suspects on Sunday night. The arrests were later confirmed by the Inspector (Investigation) of Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Arif Ullah.
He stated that the arrests were made following a complaint lodged by the victim’s husband. After completion of initial formalities, the arrested individuals were produced before the relevant court on Monday afternoon.
