Daughter Accused of Mother’s Murder

In Keshabpur, in the Jessore district, allegations have been made that a woman killed her elderly mother while visiting her parental home. The accused, Deepti Adhikari (50), has been detained by police in connection with the death of her mother, Gouri Rani Adhikari (75).

The incident took place late on Monday night, 27 April, in the Sahapara area under Keshabpur Municipality. The deceased, Gouri Rani Adhikari, was the wife of the late Kalipada Adhikari and had been residing at her home in the same locality.

According to local accounts, Deepti Adhikari had travelled to her mother’s residence a few days prior to the incident. She was reportedly staying there as a visitor. On Tuesday morning, her brother-in-law, Pabitra Adhikari, arrived at the house with the intention of taking Deepti to her own residence.

Upon entering the two-storey house and going upstairs, he found Gouri Rani Adhikari lying dead inside the premises. At the same time, Deepti Adhikari was reportedly found seated inside the bathroom in a state described by witnesses as unclothed. Following this discovery, the matter was brought to the attention of local residents.

Locals stated that, based on their initial observations, an incident of assault may have occurred during the night. It is alleged that a kitchen cutting implement, locally referred to as a boti, was used during the incident. According to these accounts, injuries were found on the victim’s forehead and the back of her head. It is further stated that the blade portion of the implement was found near the body at the scene.

Police from Keshabpur Police Station were informed and subsequently arrived at the location. They recovered the body of Gouri Rani Adhikari from the scene and took Deepti Adhikari into custody for questioning and further investigation.

The investigating officer of Keshabpur Police Station, Inspector (Investigation) Shahidul Islam, confirmed that police responded to the report and recovered the deceased’s body from the house. He also confirmed the arrest of the accused daughter, Deepti Adhikari. According to the preliminary statement provided by police, Deepti Adhikari is believed to have been suffering from mental instability. Authorities have stated that legal procedures are currently underway in connection with the case.
