Rohingya Camp Clash Leaves One Dead

A Rohingya man has died following a violent confrontation involving rival armed groups at a refugee settlement in Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.

The incident took place at approximately 7:00 pm on Friday at the Leda refugee camp (Camp-26), located in Teknaf upazila. The deceased was identified as Nur Hasan (32), a Rohingya resident of Block C-2 in the camp. He was locally known as “Bainna Dokait”. Police and Rohingya community representatives stated that multiple criminal cases had been filed against him at Teknaf Police Station, including allegations of murder and robbery.

According to information provided by police and camp leaders, the fatal incident followed an armed exchange between two rival Rohingya groups in the hilly terrain surrounding the camp. Nur Hasan was reportedly associated with one of the armed factions. After the exchange of gunfire, he was moving between nearby hill areas when members of an opposing group allegedly identified and detained him.

He was subsequently beaten by members of the rival group. At around 8:30 pm, local residents transported him in a critically injured condition to a medical facility operated by the International Organization for Migration within the camp. After receiving initial medical attention, he was referred to Ukhia Upazila Health Complex for further treatment. He was declared dead at approximately 9:30 pm while undergoing care.

Authorities stated that the violence stemmed from long-standing enmity between armed factions operating within the camp environment. Following the incident, additional police patrols were deployed to the area in order to maintain security and prevent further unrest. Officials also confirmed that the body was transferred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Legal proceedings related to the incident are currently underway, according to the police.
