Couple Arrested In Nawabganj Minor Sexual Assault Case

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) has successfully apprehended a man and his wife in connection with the alleged rape of an 11-year-old child in the Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka. The primary suspect, identified as sixty-year-old Mongol, and his spouse, forty-five-year-old Lipi Begum, were taken into custody during a targeted operation conducted on the night of Tuesday, 13 May 2026. The arrests took place in the Bangshal area of the capital, where the suspects had reportedly been in hiding following the initiation of criminal proceedings against them.

The suspects are permanent residents of Bilpalli-Shantinagar village, located within the Nayansree Union of Nawabganj upazila. According to official reports provided by law enforcement, the incident occurred several months ago and led to a sustained investigation by both local police and elite paramilitary forces.

Details of the Alleged Incident and Investigation

The case originates from an incident reported on 5 February 2026. According to the First Information Report (FIR) and statements provided by the Rapid Action Battalion, the 11-year-old victim was allegedly lured to the suspects’ residence. Once inside the property, Mongol is accused of forcibly violating the minor. His wife, Lipi Begum, has been named as a primary accomplice for her alleged role in facilitating the crime and assisting the principal accused.

Following the assault, the victim disclosed the details of the ordeal to her family members. Consequently, a formal case was registered at the Nawabganj Police Station under the relevant sections of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. In the wake of the legal filing, the suspects fled their village to evade arrest, prompting the RAB to initiate a wider search operation.

The Rapid Action Battalion-10 intensified its intelligence surveillance and employed advanced technological assistance and tracking methods to locate the absconding couple. The investigative efforts eventually traced their coordinates to the Bangshal area in Old Dhaka, leading to the successful midnight raid on Tuesday.

Legal Proceedings and Official Statements

Following their apprehension, the suspects were transported to the RAB-10 headquarters for preliminary questioning before being transferred to the custody of the Nawabganj Police for further legal formalities.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station, Abu Hanif, confirmed the veracity of the arrests and the subsequent transfer of the suspects. He stated that the police had completed the necessary documentation and procedural requirements to present the accused before the judiciary. On Wednesday afternoon, 14 May 2026, Mongol and Lipi Begum were produced before a Learned Court in Dhaka.

The police administration has indicated that they will seek a thorough trial based on the evidence collected, including medical reports and witness testimonies. Under the existing laws of Bangladesh, the charges levelled against the principal suspect carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment or capital punishment, given the age of the victim and the nature of the offence.
