Two Schoolgirls Drown in Rupganj Pond

Two school-going girls, Faria and Tumpa, died after drowning in a pond while bathing in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Sonabo area under Bhulta Union.

Faria was the daughter of Dain Islam of Dhanpur area under Dirai police station in Sunamganj district. She had been living with her family in a rented house belonging to Momin in Sonabo area. She was a Class Two student at a local educational institution known as Little Kindergarten School.

Tumpa was the daughter of Masud Mia from Rafinagar area under the same police station. She also lived with her family in a rented house owned by Alaudddin in Sonabo area and studied in Class One at the same school as Faria. It has been reported that both of their parents are garment factory workers.

According to local accounts, the two children went to a pond near their residence for bathing on Saturday afternoon. During the bath, Faria reportedly began to drown in the water. In an attempt to rescue her, Tumpa also entered the water but subsequently submerged.

Local residents later launched a search operation after being alerted to the incident. Both children were eventually recovered in an unconscious condition and taken to a private hospital in the area. On arrival, the attending doctors declared both of them dead.

Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Salauddin Ahmed stated that police were dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the incident. He confirmed that the matter is under investigation.

The incident took place in a residential locality where the children lived in rented accommodation with their families. Both victims were students of the same educational institution in the area.
