A tragic incident has been reported from Wazirpur in Gurugram, Haryana, where a 39-year-old man is accused of killing his wife and four children before attempting to take his own life by slitting his wrist. The accused is currently receiving treatment in hospital and is stated to be in a critical condition.
According to Indian media reports, the man allegedly killed his wife and four children by administering poison inside their rented residence. The victims included four minors—three daughters aged 14, 12 and 10 years, and a three-year-old son. Following the alleged killings, the man is reported to have used a knife available in the house to cut his wrist in an attempt to end his own life.
Police officials stated that the incident came to light on Saturday night at approximately 9:30 pm when the accused’s brother returned home and went upstairs. He reportedly found the woman and the four children unconscious. With the assistance of neighbours, they were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared all five victims dead upon examination.
The accused was also found inside the house in a severely injured state with a deep cut on his wrist. He was subsequently rescued and admitted to hospital under police supervision.
Preliminary information suggests that the family originally belonged to Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and had been residing in a rented accommodation in Wazirpur, Gurugram.
Police have confirmed that a formal investigation is underway. A spokesperson for the Gurugram Police, Sandeep Turan, stated that neighbours had alerted the police control room, following which officers arrived at the scene. The house was secured and the injured man was taken for medical treatment.
Authorities have noted that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination reports are received. The police further stated that once the accused recovers sufficiently, he will be questioned as part of the investigation. Officials also confirmed that they are maintaining communication with the family of the deceased woman.
