A madrasa teacher has been arrested in connection with a case filed after an 11-year-old madrasa student was found to be pregnant in Madan Upazila of Netrakona district.
The accused was arrested by a team from RAB-14 at approximately 3:00 am on Tuesday night from Gauripur Upazila in Mymensingh, according to law enforcement officials.
The matter was confirmed to news media by Additional Superintendent of Police Md Shamsuzzaman, Company Commander responsible for media at RAB-14. He said a press briefing on the case was scheduled for 12:00 pm on Wednesday at the RAB battalion headquarters in the Akua Bypass area of Mymensingh.
According to local residents, the first information report and police sources, the arrested teacher had established a women’s Qawmi madrasa four years ago. The child had been living at her maternal grandfather’s home while studying at the institution.
Family sources stated that the girl’s father had left her mother and gone elsewhere. As a result, the child’s mother works as a domestic helper in a household in Sylhet to support the family financially.
The matter came to light after the child reportedly began feeling unwell and showing noticeable physical changes. Her mother later returned from Sylhet and questioned her daughter, through which she learned about the incident.
On 18 April, the girl was taken to a clinic in Madan উপজেলা town for medical examination. Following several necessary tests, doctors informed the family that the child was pregnant.
Subsequently, the girl’s mother filed a case at the local police station on Thursday, naming the madrasa teacher as the accused.
After the case was lodged, law enforcement agencies began operations to locate and arrest the suspect, who had reportedly been absconding.
On Tuesday, a video of the teacher surfaced on social media from an undisclosed location. In the video, he claimed that he was innocent.

The incident has drawn attention locally due to the age of the victim and the institutional setting in which the alleged offence is said to have occurred.
