The body of a 50-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Abul Kalam, was recovered from a canal in Satkania upazila of Chattogram district. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when locals found the body in the Garla canal at Morfola area under Noluya Union.
According to family and police sources, Abul Kalam was the son of the late Hamid Bokshu of Peyadar Para in Rasulabad village under Kaliash Union of the same upazila. He was a battery-operated auto-rickshaw driver by profession and a father of three children.
Family members stated that Abul Kalam had left home on Monday afternoon with his vehicle to deliver fuel to a brick kiln located in the Morfola area. After departing for work, he did not return home, and his mobile contact could not be reached. As he remained untraceable throughout the day, relatives began searching for him in nearby areas.
During the search operation on Tuesday, his body was eventually found in the Garla canal in Morfola. His battery-powered auto-rickshaw was also discovered separately near a shop not far from the location where the body was recovered.
Police from Satkania Police Station later arrived at the scene and conducted initial procedures. The officer-in-charge, Manjurul Haque, stated that no visible injury marks were found on the body during the preliminary inquest report. He further confirmed that the body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Chattogram Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be determined following the completion of the autopsy report.
