Police personnel have conducted a targeted raid on the residence of a local Jubo Dal leader in the Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali district. The operation was launched following accusations regarding his involvement in illicit narcotics operations. The political figure, identified as Ahaduzzaman Tipu, who is also widely known as Tipu Khan, managed to evade law enforcement authorities and fled the premises immediately upon realising that a police action was underway.
The enforcement action followed the recent widespread dissemination of a video clip on the social media platform Facebook, which allegedly depicted Tipu Khan consuming methamphetamine tablets, locally known as yaba. The raid was executed on Friday, 22 May, during the night hours, under the direct leadership of Sub-Inspector (SI) Moniruzzaman and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mehedi Hasan of the Bauphal police station.
Law enforcement findings and public allegations
According to official statements provided by the police, multiple allegations had been received over an extended period indicating that Tipu Khan was actively involved in both the consumption and the commercial trafficking of illegal substances. Law enforcement authorities initiated the operation at his residence based on verified intelligence reports suggesting that the property was being utilized as a venue for the transactions of illicit drugs. However, the suspect was not present at the location when officers secured the site.
Local sources revealed that Ahaduzzaman Tipu previously served as the organizational secretary of the upazila unit of Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. At present, he is a candidate for the position of president of the Madanpura Union unit of Jubo Dal, the party’s youth wing.
Beyond the immediate allegations of narcotics trafficking, the political figure faces a series of serious accusations from local residents regarding unlawful activities. These include the forced occupation of private land, the unauthorized construction of permanent concrete structures on state-owned Chandina Viti land, and the physical assault of a rickshaw puller. Furthermore, he is accused of extorting a government official’s family, forcing them to vacate their residence, and actively obstructing the burial rituals of a deceased local woman named Rashida. Local accounts indicate that his disruptive behavior persisted continuously during the tenure of the previous Awami League administration.
Responses from the accused and police confirmation
Ahaduzzaman Tipu has categorically denied all the allegations brought against him, describing the narcotics charges as entirely fabricated and groundless. Addressing the specific allegation regarding the funeral obstruction, Tipu stated that a court of law had explicitly issued an injunction prohibiting any activities on the specific plot of land where individuals were attempting to bury the deceased Rashida Begum.
Furthermore, he denied demanding extortion money from the government official, instead claiming that the official was responsible for circulating the controversial video on social media. Tipu remarked that there was no possibility of pardoning the official, using a traditional Bengali idiom to assert his dominance over the individual, implying the official would eventually have to face him.
Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman of the Bauphal police station officially confirmed the details of the residential raid to the media. The police officer verified that a thorough search was conducted at the property; however, the suspect could not be apprehended as he had vacated the premises prior to the arrival of the law enforcement detachment. Police operations remain ongoing to locate the suspect.
