Yasin Khan Palash, a man previously listed by police among the country’s top criminal figures, has died while undergoing treatment after sustaining gunshot wounds in an attack in Dhaka. He was 50 years old and was widely known in criminal circles by the alias “Kailya Palash”.
According to Md. Asaduzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Hatirjheel Police Station, Palash died at approximately 1:00 am on Friday night at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. His death came around one week after he was shot near his residence in the capital.
Palash had been released from prison roughly one month before the attack. He had previously been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case.
The shooting took place on 12 June at around 1:45 pm in the Rampura area of Dhaka, opposite the Bangladesh Television building and close to Palash’s residence. Witnesses reported that unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire, and quickly fled the scene. Palash sustained two gunshot wounds to the head.
Following the attack, he was taken in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After receiving treatment there for two days, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital on Sunday night for further medical care. He remained under treatment until his death.
In connection with the shooting, Palash’s wife, Mahmuda Khanam, filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station on charges of attempted murder. The case named Jisan Ahmed Monty as the principal accused and described him as a top criminal figure. Several other individuals were also listed in the complaint.

Law enforcement agencies have so far arrested two individuals in connection with the incident. Imam Hossain was arrested from the Badda area, while Maruf Sultan was detained in Hatirjheel.
Speaking to our representative, OC Md. Asaduzzaman said that neither of the arrested individuals was named in the original complaint. However, investigators believe both were involved in the attack. According to the police officer, Imam Hossain was the rider of the motorcycle used during the shooting, while Maruf Sultan had been moving suspiciously in the area before the incident.

Palash had been convicted in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan. Mizan was shot dead in Rampura on 29 May 2002. In that case, the trial court initially sentenced Palash to death. The sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment by the High Court. Approximately one month before the shooting incident, he had been released from prison on bail in connection with that case.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, and law enforcement authorities have continued efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals involved.
