Two Dead and Three Injured in Devastating Bogura Highway Collision

A fatal road accident involving two laden lorries outside the Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH) in Bogura has left two people dead and three others severely injured on Sunday morning.

The tragedy occurred when a heavily loaded lorry collided violently with the rear of another stationary or slow-moving freight vehicle positioned near the medical complex on the busy highway. The impact of the crash was so intense that the front cabin of the rear lorry was completely crushed, instantly killing two occupants on the spot and leaving three others with critical injuries.

Rescue Operations and Traffic Chaos

Upon receiving reports of the collision, local police officers and personnel from the Fire Service and Civil Defence swiftly arrived at the scene to commence emergency operations. One victim remained trapped inside the twisted metal of the lorry’s cabin for a considerable period, necessitating specialised equipment from the rescue team to cut through the wreckage and extract him.

“The collision was extraordinarily severe, resulting in immediate fatalities. Fire service personnel worked tirelessly to rescue an injured passenger pinned inside the wrecked cabin,” reported a local official monitoring the site.

The collision caused substantial disruption along the vital transport artery. Vehicles on both sides of the highway came to a complete standstill, generating a miles-long traffic jam. Commuters, long-distance passengers, and emergency transport bound for the hospital endured severe hardship as emergency responders worked to clear the debris and restore order.

Concerns Over Highway Safety

The identities of the deceased and the injured have not yet been formally established. Authorities are currently working to confirm their details and notify their next of kin. Meanwhile, the police have managed to partially clear the road to allow the gradual movement of stranded traffic.

Road accidents along major trunk roads in northern Bangladesh, particularly involving heavy goods vehicles, remain a persistent challenge. Experts frequently attribute such mishaps to driver fatigue, speeding, improper parking alongside major thoroughfares, and a lack of adequate highway monitoring. Local authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
