Actress Mehzabin Breaks Silence

Popular actress Mehzabin Chowdhury has publicly addressed the allegations of embezzlement and threats worth 2.7 million taka, shedding light on a case that has captured widespread attention. The complaint, filed by Amirul Islam, implicated Mehzabin and her brother Alisan Chowdhury in financial misconduct.

When the siblings failed to appear in court, arrest warrants were issued on 10 November. They later surrendered at Dhaka’s Executive Magistrate Court on Sunday evening, where bail was granted.

In a lengthy social media post, Mehzabin clarified that she had no knowledge of the case for nine months. She explained that the complainant had not provided accurate contact details to the authorities, which prevented her from receiving any court notices.

The complainant alleges a business relationship dating back to 2016. However, Mehzabin points out that he has provided no messages, WhatsApp communications, screenshots, or any proof of transactions. Despite claiming 2.7 million taka was owed, no bank records, cheques, contracts, receipts, or witnesses have been presented. The most unusual claim—that Mehzabin allegedly took him blindfolded to a restaurant in Hatirjheel on 11 February—lacks any corroborating CCTV footage or testimony.

Mehzabin emphasised that she received no legal communication from police stations or courts and noted that, had she been served a notice, she would have immediately sought legal redress. She stated that although the allegations lack any factual basis, she complied with the legal process and secured bail once the arrest warrant was issued.

The case raises questions about accountability in legal proceedings and the necessity of providing tangible evidence before initiating criminal complaints. Mehzabin’s public statement has brought clarity to her position, highlighting the challenges public figures face when confronted with unsubstantiated legal claims.
