Madrasa student dies in Chatkhil while offering Tahajjud prayer

A 12-year-old madrasa student, Akram Hossain, tragically passed away while performing the Tahajjud prayer in Chatkhil, Noakhali, early on Friday morning. The incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. at the Hifz section of Bishnupur Nurani Hafizia Madrasa, located in Noakhola Union.

According to the madrasa’s head teacher, Hafez Mohin Uddin, Akram, the son of Faruk Hossain from Komolnagar in Lakshmipur, was a dedicated student of the Hifz department and had memorised 16 paras of the Qur’an. The teacher described Akram as a diligent and devout student who regularly engaged in early morning prayers.

On the day of the tragedy, Akram reportedly stood for Tahajjud prayer around 4:15 a.m. As he was praying, he suddenly became unwell and collapsed into the arms of a fellow student. Immediate efforts were made to rush him to the Upazila Health Complex, but he was pronounced dead en route.

The madrasa community was left in shock by the incident. Akram’s funeral was held on Saturday morning at the madrasa premises, after which he was laid to rest in his family graveyard. Teachers, fellow students, and local residents attended the service to pay their respects.

Chatkhil Police Station’s investigation officer, Md Abdus Sultan, confirmed that a video of the incident had circulated on social media. However, he noted that no formal complaint had been lodged in connection with Akram’s death. Authorities are treating the case as a natural death pending any further inquiries.
