On Saturday, 2 May, Schalke earned a narrow 1–0 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf. Although three league matches remain, the result took Schalke to 67 points, guaranteeing at least a top-two finish and, consequently, promotion. The win also extended their advantage over third-placed Hannover to 10 points, confirming their position beyond reach in the promotion race.
