Seventeen Police Officers Forced Retired

Seventeen officers belonging to the Bangladesh Police Service, drawn from the BCS (Police) cadre and holding the ranks of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Additional DIG, have been placed on compulsory retirement by the Government of Bangladesh.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday (3 May), the decision was taken under Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018. The notification states that the retirement orders were issued in the public interest. It further confirms that the concerned officers will be entitled to all retirement benefits in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.

The order follows an earlier administrative decision on 22 April, when 11 DIGs and 2 Additional DIGs were also sent into compulsory retirement. Those officers had been serving in various specialised units, field formations, and departmental postings within the police administration.

The latest notification covers senior officials serving across multiple branches of the police, including specialised units, training institutions, and intelligence and transport policing divisions.

The notification also states that the order is effective immediately upon issuance.

Under Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018, the government is empowered to retire public servants from service in the public interest. The notification confirms that all officers covered by the order will receive retirement benefits as per existing service rules.

In addition to the 17 DIG and Additional DIG rank officers listed above, the same notification also includes one Superintendent of Police, Farhat Ahmed, who held the post in a supernumerary capacity as an Additional DIG within the Railway Police. His retirement has been issued under the same administrative order.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that the decision is to be implemented with immediate effect, marking a significant administrative action involving senior-level officials across several specialised and operational units of the Bangladesh Police.
