Modern Two-Storey Traffic Police Box Opened at Agargaon

To modernise, humanise, and improve traffic management in the capital, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is advancing the construction of five two-storey traffic police boxes across the city. These new structures are designed to provide traffic officers with a safe, comfortable, and efficient working environment, while also benefiting pedestrians and the surrounding community.

On Sunday, 30 November, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz inaugurated a fully equipped two-storey traffic police box at Agargaon Crossing. Speaking at the event, he highlighted the challenges faced by traffic police officers, noting that they often work in sun, rain, and storms, sometimes from inadequate tin shelters, which are unsuitable for a modern city. “The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) requested the construction of modern police boxes. We are creating a safe, comfortable, and attractive work environment for the officers so they can carry out their duties more efficiently,” he said.

The new design incorporates pedestrian-friendly features, with the structure built over the footpath, allowing people to move freely underneath without obstruction. Additionally, female-friendly facilities have been prioritised. While the original plan included only a single toilet, the final design now provides separate restrooms for male and female officers, promoting inclusivity and convenience. The building is also climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable, reflecting DNCC’s commitment to eco-friendly urban development.
