In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through Dhaka, a site manager was shot by a group of masked assailants at a construction site in Mohakhali on Sunday afternoon. The targeted individual, 42-year-old Md. Nazimuddin, has been overseeing the project at the Sewa Nursing Institute for several years.
The attack occurred around 3:30 pm near the TB Gate area in Mohakhali. Nazimuddin, originally from Khanpur village in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district and currently residing in Nakhalpara, Dhaka, was seriously injured during the assault.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, eight to ten masked men entered the under-construction building, reportedly searching for an engineer. Failing to find their intended target, the attackers turned their aggression towards Nazimuddin, physically assaulting him before firing shots as they fled the premises.
Medical sources confirmed that one of the bullets entered near the side of Nazimuddin’s left knee and exited from the opposite side. Colleagues promptly rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency department. Doctors have described his condition as stable, though he continues to receive intensive medical care.
Speaking to reporters, his younger brother, Azimuddin, said, “The attackers came masked, looking for an engineer. Not finding him, they assaulted my brother and fired a shot as they fled the scene.”
Khulna Munshur, Officer-in-Charge of Banani Police Station, stated, “The shooting took place in front of the nursing institute. The bullet passed through the victim’s leg. He is currently at the police station, and preparations are underway to file a case.”
The police have launched an intensive operation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The crime scene has been thoroughly inspected, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to trace the attackers. Preliminary investigations suggest that the assault was premeditated, highlighting lapses in the security arrangements and the vulnerability of personnel at the construction site.
The violent episode has left local residents alarmed, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures. Authorities have assured the public that all efforts are being made to bring the culprits to justice swiftly.
