Jahangirnagar University Releases ‘B’ Unit Results; Pass Rate Drops to 13.8%

Jahangirnagar University has officially released the results for the ‘B’ Unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences for the 2025–2026 academic session. The pass rate for this highly competitive undergraduate (honours) first-year programme stands at a mere 13.8 per cent, reflecting the rigorous standards of the examination.

The results were published on the university’s official website on Tuesday afternoon, a confirmation provided by the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Shamsul Alam Selim.

According to the Central Admission Test Committee, a total of 20,583 candidates had applied for admission to the ‘B’ Unit. Of these, 17,734 candidates appeared for the examination, corresponding to an attendance rate of 86.16 per cent. Among the attendees, only 2,447 students succeeded in passing the exam, resulting in the notably low pass rate.

Professor Selim elaborated on the situation, stating, “The ‘B’ Unit offers 326 seats in total. Ordinarily, results are published with merit lists containing up to ten times the number of available seats. However, this year, due to the exceptionally low pass rate, it was not possible to maintain this ratio. Furthermore, 58 OMR sheets were invalidated because candidates failed to complete the required information properly.”

The examination had taken place the previous day, Monday, commencing at 9:00 a.m. To accommodate the large number of candidates, the test was conducted in three separate sessions—two for female students and one for male students.

The results have sparked discussion among students and parents alike. While some students expressed disappointment at the low pass rate, those who succeeded are preparing to proceed with the next stages of the admission process. The university administration has assured that all qualified candidates will be able to complete their enrolment without complications.
