Alleged Stabbing of JASAS Leader in Gazipur: Six Arrested

In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of concern through Gazipur’s Shreepur Upazila, a senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Social Cultural Organisation (JASAS) has allegedly been killed in a stabbing attack. Police have detained six individuals for questioning in connection with the case.

The incident reportedly occurred last night at approximately 3:00 am in Latifpur village, within the Gosinga Union of Shreepur Upazila. The deceased has been identified as Farid Sarkar, aged 35, a resident of Narayanpur village and the son of Jamal Uddin. Farid held the position of Senior Joint Secretary of the Gosinga Union branch of JASAS.

Alleged Motive: Land Dispute :

Relatives of the deceased have suggested that the fatal attack stemmed from a long-standing dispute over land. Shakil Hasan Morol, a family member, told reporters that neighbours Anwar Hossain and Md. Motahar had previously threatened the family over the property issue. The dispute had even been formally documented through a General Diary (GD) filed at Shreepur Police Station.

Farid Sarkar’s father, Jamal Uddin, expressed the family’s fears:

“The neighbouring parties continuously threatened us. We lived under constant anxiety. Tragically, this hostility culminated in my son’s death.”

Sequence of Events :

According to family sources, Farid Sarkar had visited a local brick kiln after dinner. He was reported missing shortly thereafter. A local Union Parishad member discovered him in a severely injured state near the kiln. The family rushed him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. Reports indicate multiple stab wounds to the head and hands, suggesting the use of a sharp weapon.

Police Response :

Speaking to The Daily Star, Officer-in-Charge Md. Nasir Ahmed of Shreepur Police Station confirmed that the crime scene had been inspected and the body sent for autopsy at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. He added:

“Preliminary observations indicate stab wounds to the head and hands. Legal action is underway, and six individuals have been detained for questioning.”
